The used SonoSite X-Porte point-of-care ultrasound machine is a shared-service ultrasound featuring SonoSite’s self-touted XDI (Extreme Definition Imaging) which further reduces image artifact.

This highly customizable ultrasound is the first ultrasound to offer on-board step-by-step coaching through an ultrasound exam, making ultrasound more accessible to those who aren’t formally trained in using ultrasound machines.

The X-Porte comes in shared service configuration, including probes for Vascular, venous, breast, small parts, OB/GYN, Nerve, superficial, MSK, and abdominal. With CW Doppler, the X-Porte can also perform advanced cardiac studies.

Providian Medical SonoSite X-Porte Ultrasound Review

The X-Porte is billed as the “First ultrasound kiosk,” a vague term used to tout its features as an easy-to-use, self-guided ultrasound machine. It is ideally suited for those not very familiar with ultrasound, and with its onboard coaching and simple user interface, ultrasound becomes more accessible to a variety of potential users.

Q: What is XDI Imaging?

A: XDI on the SonoSite X-Porte ultrasound machine is "Extreme Definition Imaging". This is a software feature that improves image quality by further reducing artifact and "speckle" over its current image optimization technologies.

Q: What is an "ultrasound kiosk"

A: An ultrasound kiosk is SonoSite's term for a user-friendly ultrasound machine that can guide a user through an ultrasound exam and is also highly customizable.

Q: What is a "Point of Care" ultrasound machine?

A: "Point of Care" ultrasound machine refers to the rapidly growing group of clinicians performing and interpreting ultrasound at the bedside. This includes surgery, emergency medicine, Intensive Care (ICU) and musculoskeletal care. "Point of Care" ultrasounds provide rapid diagnosis, visualization of tissue, and needle visualization for procedures at bedside. Some medical schools are providing ultrasound machines to their students to carry around during their clinical rotations.

Q: What is Needle Visualization or Needle Enhancement?

A: Ultrasounds designed for needle guidance use a beam-steering technology to try and get the ultrasound beam perpendicular to the needle, thereby improving visualization of the needle.

Q: Can I use the SonoSite X-Porte for needle-guidance procedures?

A: Yes, we sell a lot of refurbished SonoSite X-Porte systems to physicians using a portable ultrasound for needle-guided procedures.
