Product Highlights

Type: Cardiac Vascular OB/GYN General Imaging Breast

The used Philips Epiq 5 premium color Doppler ultrasound is one of two units that replace the well-known iu22 and ie33 Philips ultrasound machines.

The refurbished Epiq 5 is a shared service color Doppler ultrasound machine that features Philips’ new imaging architecture: nSIGHT.

nSIGHT is Philips new beamforming and processing technology designed to greatly improve spatial, temporal, and contrast resolution. The new technology is well received and keeps Philips one of the few true strong players in the premium ultrasound market.

In addition to nSIGHT, the Epiq 5 also includes Philips previous high-end imaging technologies including PureWave transducers, MicroCPA for better low-flow angio, ShearWave elastography, compound imaging (SonoCT), and speckle reduction imaging (XRES).

A touch-screen interface reduces the amount of “reach” required by the sonographer and also reduces repetitive tasks and increases workflow efficiency. Additionally, its Anatomical Intelligence feature is designed to add more workflow efficiency by automatically identifying anatomy and performing the most common tasks.

With nSIGHT technology, Philips claims a 76% increase in penetration and higher resolution at higher frame rates with the Epiq 5 ultrasound over traditional cart-based machines.

Providian Medical Philips Epiq 5 Ultrasound Review

The Epiq series replaces the well-known iu22 and ie33 lines with the announcement of new technologies, increased ergonomics, faster workflow, and a more intelligent platform.

The Epiq ultrasound machines are a big step forward in the ultrasound imaging arena, and these machines will command a premium price for many years to come.

The Epiq 5 is a slightly lesser version of the Philips Epiq 7 ultrasound, the key differences coming with XMATRIX transducers and some imaging process options.

Q:What is nSIGHT imaging technology?

A: nSight was introduced to the market in early 2014 as Philips major breakthrough technology for image beamforming and multiprocessing. With nSIGHT and enhanced processing in the machine, the Epiq 5 handles more information and provides better real-time imaging resolution.

Q:What is SonoCT on the Philips Epiq 5?

A: SonoCT on the Philips Epiq 5 is also known as compound imaging (CrossXBeam, iBeam, etc). It allows the ultrasound transducer to see from multiple lines of site at different angles, as opposed to the standard line-of-site that's perpendicular to the transducer lens.

Q:What is XRES?

A: XRES on the Philips Epiq 5 portable ultrasound machine uses a software algorithm to increase image resolution by reducing “speckle” (artifact) while brightening tissue in the image. The result provides a clearer image with higher contrast between hyper- and hypo-echoic regions.

Q:What is iScan?

A: iScan on the Philips Epiq 5 is a one-touch optimization in which the system evaluates the ultrasound image and optimizes Gain automagically.

Q:What is Live xPlane Imaging?

A: Live xPlane imaging on the Philips Epiq 5 allows for a simultaneous display of two live imaging planes.

Q:What is PureWave technology?

A: Philips PureWave is a transducer technology in which the crystals (elements) of the transducer are arranged uniformly, which is not the case with standard transducer technology. Philips states that PureWave technology provides more consistent image results.

Q:What is Q-Lab?

A: Q-Lab is Philips Quantitative analysis software package for cardiac ultrasound studies. It includes a series of options available on some Philips ultrasound machines. These features include items such as ROI quantification, Tissue Motion Quantification (TMQ), Strain Quantification (SQ), IMT Intima Media Thickness), Microvascular Imaging, and GI 3D Quantification.
