Ultrasound machines are used thousands of times every day to view human babies, but officials at Zoo Atlanta used their machine to confirm the pregnancy of their giant panda, Lun Lun. The zoo even posted the ultrasound photo on their website so that everyone can view the baby panda.
"We have confirmed a panda cub, and it appears to be fully formed with a nice heartbeat," said the zoo's Dwight Lawson in an article posted on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website. "We are anxious to have something happen soon."
The article stated that officials performed the ultrasound procedure by feeding the panda bananas, biscuits and other treats while gently sitting on her head with another veterinarian using the ultrasound wand.
