The first uses of UltraSound in medicine was done in Maryland in the late 1940's. Dr. George Ludwig, who was conducting research at the Naval Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, found that he could apply the use of ultrasonic energy for medical diagnostic purposes. In a number of experiments he found that he could use ultrasonic energy to detect gallbladder stones. This was a groundbreaking experiment that enabled doctors to no longer have to rely on invasive surgery to diagnose patients. Over the years the UltraSound equipment used by doctors has become better and less expensive. Once portable UltraSound models were created, the ability to help patients at accident scenes or in difficult areas where mobility is an issue. urbanfort-ultrasound-machines
